The concept of DevOps has been around for the better part of a decade. However, it’s only been the past few years that it’s gained traction broadly. There are still many companies that have not embraced it, primarily because change is hard and can be risky, but the benefits generally turn out to be worth it. I’ve talked to companies that have seen software deployment times cut by a factor of 10 while the lead time for changes is faster by multiple orders of magnitude....

The Windows 11 releases arrived alongside the Windows 10 22H2 release rolling out to the Release Preview Channel. It’s the next feature update to Windows 10 and is separate to Windows 11 22H2. Microsoft has been quiet about Windows 10 22H2, a minor release, and didn’t announce any new features in the new build, but has since clarified it was released to validate its servicing technology. The company also released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25169 to the Dev Channel, as well as two builds for Windows 11 to the Beta Channel — one with new features on, and another with features off — and a Windows 11 build for the Release Preview Channel....

When most people offer advice about choosing a new PC, they turn to the standard “speeds and feeds” items. According to the EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), the suspects built or used software that duplicated certain models’ ignition keys and that was promoted online as an automotive diagnostic tool. “The criminals targeted keyless vehicles from two French car manufacturers. A fraudulent tool – marketed as an automotive diagnostic solution, was used to replace the original software of the vehicles, allowing the doors to be opened and the ignition to be started without the actual key fob,” said Europol....

Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and IBM, which acquired Red Hat, are all betting on infrastructure that bridges data centers, clouds and edge compute. Cisco reports solid product order growth in Q3, supply chain challenges Todd Nightingale, general manager of Cisco’s enterprise networking and cloud unit, said the company is focused on providing observability across the enterprise stack....

As cloud becomes the dominant way of consuming compute, storage and networking, organisations should be crafting a concise 10-to-20-page “consumable document” that guides those who implement the strategy, according to Marco Meinardi, vice president analyst at Gartner. “The business strategy should drive the cloud strategy and provide guidance to those who will implement it. It must coexist with other strategic efforts, not try to redo them,” Meinardi notes. Organizations worldwide spend in excess of $60 billion a quarter on cloud computing, according to another analyst firm Canalys....

Cloudflare is one of today’s major content delivery networks (CDNs). The US firm also provides distributed denial-of-service protection to online domains, speed optimization, and various cybersecurity services. The company accounts for millions of customers worldwide including major enterprise firms. On Tuesday morning, a number of websites and online services suddenly went down, including Feedly, Cloudflare itself, blogs, cryptocurrency services, and more. Ironically, this also meant that down detectors – websites used to check the status of another domain you are having trouble connecting to – also went offline....

The company reported a first quarter net loss of $18.66 million, or 45 cents a share, on $88.36 million, up 64% from a year ago. Non-GAAP loss for the first quarter was 32 cents a share. Wall Street was looking for first quarter revenue of $82.32 million and a non-GAAP loss of 31 cents a share. The company’s Q4 Brand Phishing Report for 2021 ranks the top 10 most imitated brands in October, November and December. Researchers at Check Point found DHL’s brand used in 23% of all phishing attacks they saw globally. Microsoft was second at 20%, while WhatsApp came in at 11% and Google appeared in 10%. “This quarter, for the first time, we’ve seen global logistics company DHL top the rankings as the most likely brand to be imitated, presumably to capitalize on the soaring number of new and potentially vulnerable online shoppers during the year’s busiest retail period,” Dembinsky said....

Accelerated by 2240 Nvidia A100 Tensor Core GPUs, the Polaris system will be able to achieve almost 1.4 exaflops of theoretical AI performance and approximately 44 petaflops of peak double-precision performance. That makes it roughly as performant as a top 10 computer on the Top500 list of the world’s 500 most powerful supercomputers. The system will be built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Researchers at Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) will use the new supercomputer for a range of scientific pursuits, such as advancing cancer treatments, exploring clean energy and propelling particle collision research....
