Police said assets have been seized including $375,000 in cash, two luxury cars and $1.3 million in cryptocurrencies. Authorities haven’t disclosed which ransomware syndicate the two people arrested are involved with, only that the organised cybercrime group is suspected of carrying out a string of coordinated attacks against “very large industrial groups” across Europe and North America. Ukrainian cyber police have said they believe the ransomware operation has targeted more than 100 organisations....

In an update on Friday morning, the company said the “vast majority” of its sites are back up and running on the front end, but many systems are still facing a variety of issues. They urged their customers – which include thousands of schools across 115 different countries – to limit “software usage to critical information updates for your front-end” until they have confirmed that all functionality is working fully....

“During the past year, 58% of all cyberattacks observed by Microsoft from nation-states have come from Russia,” Tom Burt, Microsoft corporate vice president said in a blogpost detailing government-backed hacking over the past year. The US and UK blamed the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) for the huge software supply chain attack on US enterprise software vendor, SolarWinds. Approximately 18,000 customers received a malicious software update for the vendor’s Orion network management software that contained the Sunburst backdoor....

On Thursday, cybersecurity firm Eclypsium said that several servers belonging to the data center solutions provider were still vulnerable to the bug, which has been publicly known for years now. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2019-6260, was first discovered in January 2019.
