Speaking at the 2021 digital.NSW event, Office of the NSW Building Commissioner digital director Yin Man explained how the state government has worked with KPMG, Microsoft, Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Western Sydney University, and Mirvac to build what is being referred to as a trustworthy index, within the state government’s building assurance solution. The solution, based on ASX’s blockchain technology, has been designed to track a building’s provenance – from the materials that are used, the drawings of the building, and people involved in the construction – to enable the building industry, current and prospective owners, regulators, and insurers to compare and assess the trustworthiness of different buildings....

The plan to build a new semiconductor hub comes off the back of a recommendation by the state’s Chief Scientist and Engineer Office after it conducted a study into the country’s semiconductor scene. In the study, Sydney Nano Institute deputy director James Rabeau said there are currently no major Australian companies whose core business is in semiconductor design or development. With the semiconductor industry in Australia being quite limited, a government representative clarified that the goal behind creating the semiconductor hub was not to create a new major semiconductor fab as there are “significant capital and non-capital barriers in Australia”....

Nvidia rolled out Omniverse in open beta last December – nearly a year before Facebook committed to the concept of a “metaverse” by renaming itself Meta.
