The downsides of SSDs compared to HDDs is that you get little to no warning when they are starting to malfunction, and when they die, it’s generally permanent. So, in addition to having a backup or two (you should always have at least two backups of your important data), it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your Mac’s storage drive....

In a report on Friday, the security company said it discovered multiple members of Conti discussing ways to take advantage of the Log4j issue, making them the first sophisticated ransomware group spotted trying to weaponize the vulnerability. AdvIntel said the current exploitation “led to multiple use cases through which the Conti group tested the possibilities of utilizing the Log4J2 exploit.” “Most importantly, AdvIntel confirmed that the criminals pursued targeting specific vulnerable Log4J2 VMware vCenter for lateral movement directly from the compromised network resulting in vCenter access affecting the US and European victim networks from the pre-existent Cobalt Strike sessions,” the researchers said....

Microsoft has achieved the Authorization to Operate (ATO) Azure Government Top Secret infrastructure in accordance with Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 503, a set of policies for IT systems used by intelligence agencies. They’ve also achieved ATO for facilities accredited to meet the ICD 705 standards for physical and technical security. Azure Government Top Secret, unveiled back in December, offers customers access to multiple geographically separate regions. This can help them meet data residency requirements, as well as offer continuity of operations and resilience....

On September 19, Microsoft’s Chief Environmental Officer Lucas Joppa said the grant has been awarded to help the company achieve its 2030 goal of becoming carbon negative, as well as to promote a “net-zero” carbon economy in the future. The Redmond giant has taken two steps toward these aims. The first was a pledge to invest a total of $1 billion over the next four years in carbon-reducing and sustainability technology via the Climate Innovation Fund, and the second being the new $100 million donation....
