In its investigation, the ACMA found that between January 2020 and March 2021, the gambling provider sent more than 150,000 marketing messages and emails to over 37,000 consumers who had tried to unsubscribe, and over 3,000 marketing texts that had no unsubscribe function. The messages offered incentives to consumers to place bets or contained alerts about upcoming races, the ACMA said. “We received complaints from people stating they were experiencing gambling-related problems and were trying to manage the issue by unsubscribing from Sportsbet’s promotions,” ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin said....

In its latest move to commercial adoption, AlmaLinux is now ready to run on the Azure marketplace. Images are available for both Gen1 and Gen2 and are deployable from the Azure portal. You can also get it up and running using the Azure shell utility as well as from the marketplace link. The software cost to get going with AlmaLinux? Free. Zero. Nada. Of course, many Linux distros are available for free on the clouds....

Wing is an Alphabet subsidiary that develops technology for drone-based deliveries. Of the deliveries Wing has made so far, more than half were completed over the past eight months in Logan, Australia, where it launched two years ago. The deliveries in Logan have included 10,000 cups of coffee, 1,700 children’s snack packs, 1,200 roast chickens, 2,700 sushi rolls, and 1,000 loaves of bread, Wing said. During the first week of this month, customers living in Logan placed orders for 4,500 deliveries, which Wing said worked out to be one every 30 seconds during service hours....

Lenovo was the first PC OEM to get its hands on the Threadripper PRO WX-Series, and it has been putting them into the ThinkStation P620 since March 2022. Dell is adding its Precision 7865 workstation to the lineup next month. There are three chips in the Threadripper PRO WX-Series lineup: AMD has not released any pricing for Threadripper PRO WX-Series, but expect a hefty price tag. The company is also simplifying the Threadripper platform, with it now making use of a single “common infrastructure,” where there will be one set of Threadripper PRO processors to choose from, along with one CPU socket and chipset....

With the likes of Southwest and American Airlines canceling thousands of flights not so long ago, many passengers have been reddening at the ears and breathing fire through their nostrils. Deloitte’s Center for Technology, Media & Telecommunications conducted a survey of 2,005 US consumers to better understand how people are interacting with technology post pandemic. Among employed adults with remote-work experience, three-quarters prefer it, the survey showed. Half of employed adults overall prefer virtual or hybrid work options. Respondents listed the top benefits of working from home: the lack of commute, the enhanced comfort of working in your own home, reduced chances of catching illnesses like COVID-19, better focus and an increased connection to family....

Not one mentions how much fun it is to work for Apple. They talk of prestige and professional fulfillment, but fun? No, no, no. It’s hard work. Really hard work. I’m concerned, therefore, that the so-called Great Resignation has caused desperation for fun to burst through some Apple employees’ pores. I judge this from a new ad – a long new ad – emitted by Cupertino. It shows how unhappy people are working for a large corporation....

The report follows a fiscal Q4 report in October when the company lost $6 billion worth of sales to supply chain disruption, and warned at the time that Q1 would be worse. The report sent Apple shares almost 3% in late trading. CEO Tim Cook remarked that the “quarter’s record results were made possible by our most innovative lineup of products and services ever.” Added Cook, “We are gratified to see the response from customers around the world at a time when staying connected has never been more important....

It’s been five years since the release of the Apple Watch Series 3, a $199 gateway into the watchOS experience, and Apple is finally putting the affordable smartwatch to rest. Well, update-wise. Apple’s website lists all the watches that will receive the upcoming watchOS 9 update. The list includes the Apple Watch Series 4, 5, SE, 6, and 7, but not the 3. While it’s no surprise that older hardware like the Series 3, which has suffered from unstable updates in the past, won’t be getting the new fitness and health features, Apple is continuing to sell it on the main website....

All motors vibrate, but vibrations from high-powered motorcycles reach further across the vehicle than cars because of their proximity to the rest of the chassis. Apple says that “high amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges” can permanently affect your iPhone camera system by damaging the gyroscope sensor that the iPhone’s optical image stabilization (OIS) feature relies on to reduce blurry shots in motion. “To reduce image motion and the resulting blur, the lens moves according to the angle of the gyroscope,” Apple explains....

All the way back in 2017, Bloomberg reported on its knowledge of “rOS,” a new operating system that was supposedly being created to run a forthcoming virtual reality product. The news site predicted at the time that such a device could ship as early as 2020. Obviously, that didn’t happen. Since then, rumors have cropped up here and there about Apple’s ongoing efforts. Over the years, ever-shifting claims have prognosticated that the mysterious headset will be both stand-alone and require an iPhone to be tethered to, they’ve also claimed processing levels on par with everything from an iPhone to, more recently, an M1 Mac....

The consumer had his smartphone, an iPhone 12, stolen on the streets of São Paulo in June 2021. The criminal then managed to unlock the device quickly, change the user’s Apple ID, disable the Find my iPhone functionality and carry out a number of financial transactions. The plaintiff, a lawyer, stated it is unreasonable that a device such as an iPhone 12 – which has a starting price of 5699 reais ($1014) in Brazil – does not offer the minimum in terms of security, since the smartphone could only be unlocked with a password and identification via facial biometrics....
