ChatGPT is an AI-driven natural language processing tool which interacts with users in a human-like, conversational way. Poly Network said that the hacker had “exploited a vulnerability between contract calls” – where a contract can modify the keeper of a contract and execute a transaction....

Printers are usually connected to business networks – and potentially forgotten when it comes to security – so they can easily provide an avenue of attack. Highlighting this issue is PrintNightmare, CVE-2021-34481, a Windows Print Spooler service vulnerability that permits attackers to escalate privileges to system level, which was patched in August. In addition, HP patched a separate, 16-year-old privilege escalation driver flaw in July. Go gained generics in Go version 1.18 released in March, when it was described as ‘Go’s most often requested feature’, so it’s not surprising it has since been quickly adopted. According to the June 2022 Go developer survey, over a quarter of the 5,752 respondents have started using generics in their Go code. Go is the 16th most popular programming language, according to developer analyst, Redmonk’s January 2022 rankings. Todd Kulesza, a UX designer on Go, noted in a blogpost that the addition of generics was welcome, but noted that about a third of developers are running into some limitations of its initial implementation....

But Python’s nature as a community-driven project brings its own share of problems. A statement by Europol describes the 12 suspects in Ukraine and Switzerland as “high-value targets” responsible for “wreaking havoc across the world” by distributing LockerGoga, MegaCortex, Dharma and other ransomware attacks against organisations in 71 countries. But it’s unclear if the individuals have been arrested or charged – a Europol spokesperson told ZDNet that “the judicial process is ongoing”. The suspects are believed to have various different roles in “aggressive” criminal organisations responsible for encrypting networks with ransomware and demanding a payment in exchange for the decryption key....

The MegaCortex ransomware decryptor was built by cybersecurity analysts at Bitdefender in cooperation with Europol, the No More Ransom Project, the Zürich Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Zürich Cantonal Police. The decryption tool, which should work with all variants of MegaCortex ransomware, is available to download from Bitdefender and via No More Ransom’s decryption tools portal. MegaCortex ransomware has plagued organizations across the world for several years, with cyber criminals infiltrating computer networks, gaining access privileges, using that opening to install and trigger file-encrypting malware attacks, and then demanding a ransom payment for the decryption key....

The recommendations were just a few of the 15 changes to the payments system called for in a review [PDF] probing Australia’s 20-plus year-old regulatory architecture for payments.
